SeaPlan strives to achieve a future in which vibrant coastal economies and societies are sustained by resilient ocean ecosystems supported by best practices in ocean management.
Leveraging expertise and constructive working relationships cultivated during development of the Massachusetts Ocean Management Plan, SeaPlan aims to advance science-based and stakeholder informed ocean management by enhancing knowledge, relationships and management tools through effective practice of ecosystem-based coastal and marine spatial planning (CMSP) and the dissemination of its products and approaches. SeaPlan continues to support ocean use planning in Massachusetts, and is actively engaged in regional collaborations.
SeaPlan believes that productive social relationships, where people collectively engage in civic activities, are essential for effective coastal ocean management. SeaPlan provides many services to facilitate ocean planning, including mediation and facilitation, social capital building to better engage stakeholders, planners, scientists and policy makers in ocean management planning.
