Massachusetts Ocean Plan
The MA Executive Office of Energy and Environmental affairs (EEA) released the MA Ocean Management Plan on January 4, 2010. These documents are the culmination of more than 18 months of intense effort led by EEA and other state agencies, with extensive technical support from the Massachusetts Ocean Partnership (now called SeaPlan). They incorporate stakeholder input and the best available scientific information to produce the first integrated ocean management plan for use in the United States.
The Plan is currently being implemented in a number of ways and we remain actively engaged. It has been formally incorporated into the federally approved MA Coastal Management Program. Several project proposals in the coastal zone are being reviewed by the State of Massachusetts consistent with the guidance set by the Plan. Numerous science and research priorities identified in the Plan are being addressed by SeaPlan, the MA Office of Coastal Zone Management, and our partners. Please refer to our What We Do page for information on current projects supporting ocean planning in Massachusetts.
