This project is presently underway.
The information collected for the Gulf of Maine and Massachusetts Bay will be particularly interesting given the marine-terrestrial interface, the potential to advance habitat classification in the northeast, and the multiple uses of this data in coastal and marine spatial planning. Following completion of the project, a functional, dedicated server will be loaded with data for the defined variables and made publically available. Select data products will also be available through various data portals in the region, including MORIS and the Northeast Ocean Data Portal. Releases of interim datasets and data products will be announced here and through various other web sites in the Northeast. Until then, specific data requests related to this project should be directed to SeaPlan.

The development of a habitat classification scheme is a priority of the MA OMP. Development of a habitat classification system is reliant on an improved understanding of the water column and oceanographic characteristics that impact the seafloor. |
