Integrated Data Network | Data Integration for MA Ocean Plan

The Situation

In order to meet the requirements of the Oceans Act, datasets that were previously not available to the State needed to be analyzed and integrated.  Much of the data analysis and integration was conducted by State agency staff.  However, considerable additional capacity and technical expertise was required to analyze and integrate several datasets for planning.

The Project

EEA requested MOP’s assistance with the processing, analysis and integration of a variety of ocean planning datasets, including vessel traffic, tidal currents, sediment transport, whale habitat, and stakeholder generated use maps.

Role in Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning

The inventory and analysis of ecological and socioeconomic data is a fundamental element of CMSP.  The methods used to process, analyze and integrate these data inform the development of a data network.

Development of the MA Ocean Plan required the analysis of numerous datasets and the integration of the raw data and analysis products into the State’s servers and online mapping application.
