The Situation
Under the mandate of the MA Oceans Act of 2008, MA EEA directed development of the draft MA Ocean Plan for public review 6 months prior to promulgation.
The Project
MA EEA engaged the Massachusetts Ocean Partnership to provide essential strategic, technical, logistical, and financial support to help meet the mandated deadline for draft plan release; MOP staff, contractors and Partners supported dozens of science integration and stakeholder engagement activities to help develop the draft (and final) MA Ocean Plan.
Role in Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning
Draft plan was science based and extensively stakeholder informed—it is a tangible result of and implement for CMSP.
Challenges & Applications
The massive scope of this endeavor combined with the ultra-short timeline for draft plan development presented a formidable challenge; Support from the MOP public-private partnership helped the EEA planning team create the best plan possible in the time available.
