Social Capital Development to Improve Decision Making Capacity

Broad-based stakeholder inclusion is a prerequisite for making ocean management decisions that are both effective and“durable.”

We encourage cross-sector dialogue and are a non-partisan broker of credible science in support of coastal and marine spatial planning. To support the creation of the Massachusetts Ocean Plan, the Massachusetts Ocean Partnership brought together over 65 partner organizations from industry, local, state and federal government, the conservation community, academia and other sectors to play an integral part in the ocean planning process.

Our public/private partnership approach supports numerous independent and state-led stakeholder engagement activities designed to build social capital –cohesion and communication among individuals and institutions within the political/social system– required to effect coastal and marine spatial planning.
