Social Capital Development | MOP Governance

Intro

The Situation

Founding members of the MOP Governing Board helped develop our Five Year Strategic Plan, secured the funding necessary to conduct the first three years of work and now provide continued guidance and support as our work advances in MA and beyond.

The Project

MOP conducts outreach to and engages a broad range of stakeholder partners, integrates best available science and tools, and seeks to disseminate lessons widely to help foster resilient ocean ecosystems so they can provide the goods, services and sustainable economies we all want and need.

Role in Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning

MOP Governing Board members are ocean managers, scientists and ocean-use stakeholders—they represent a spectrum of experience helpful in guiding our efforts to advance the practice of coastal and marine spatial planning.

Challenges & Applications

The tight ocean planning timeline required significant investment of Governing Board time (sixteen meetings between May 2008 and December 2009) and now requires renewed effort to raise the funds necessary to continue and expand MOP’s support of Plan implementation, evolution and dissemination of processes and products.

Behind every good non-profit organization is a Governing Board providing guidance and support to ensure the success of the mission.
